Winners of the 2023 Women Changing the World Awards for Sustainability, it's official - Acala Stem's lotus silk is the best textile in the world for those who care about our planet.
Lotus silk is the rarest and most exclusive textile in the world. It's also the most sustainable – produced on a handloom needing no water, oil, gas or electricity. Even the stems are collected by hand on a floating raft by our valued lotus flower farmers.
Naturally organic, and handcrafted from the purity of 10,000 lotus flower stems, our lotus silk scarves are leading the future of ethical luxury.
To touch, it feels like a cloud. To wear it feels ultra-breathable, light, and free. It's cooling in the humid climate, and warming in the cold winds.
We’re reviving the love and appreciation of fine textiles that was buried from mass production. Our lotus silk is to treasure and keep for life until they're handed down to the next generation.
Wear with pride – Acala Stem lotus silk scarves are a bold environmental and humanitarian statement. Those who already own an Acala Stem Lotus Silk Scarf are part of a movement to change the world - one purchase at a time.

Lotus silk contains 12 essential amino acids for the skin, and a high concentration of negative ions, which is why it feels so good, earning the reputation of the most healing plant-based fabric in the world.
Acala Stem have self-funded their own clinical testing at Nelson Laboratories in the USA, investing more than $6000 of our profits to prove our lotus silk's efficacy, with results up to 6 times more breathable than other fabrics*.
The powerful, self-cleaning properties of the lotus flower offer a huge advantage when woven into a luxury textile. Our lotus silk also tested with antibacterial activity (antibiosis) of greater than 99%.# Testing certificates can be found on our website.
There is a knowing when we wear high-quality, high vibrational fabrics on our skin. Our clothing is the forgotten pillar of health & wellness.
* Testing performed to the European standard EN 14683:2019, Annex C and the American Standard ASTM F2100:19.
# Testing was performed to the Korean Standard KS K 0693:2016. (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae).
Lotus silk is the most sustainable textile in the world, produced with no water, gas, oil or electricity. Even the stems are collected with a raft and oar. This also helps reduce the purchase of cotton or bamboo which are heavy in water and chemical consumption. Lotus is grown from SE Asia’s rainy season so it doesn’t require watering. Most of the lotus stem grows underwater therefore harvesting is less disruptive to our planet.
We are a 100% plant-based brand, so we don't use any animal-derived fibres. Our lotus silk is made with zero chemicals or harmful dyes.
With 85% of mass-produced textiles going straight to landfill each year, it’s now critical to create products designed to keep for life. High quality accessories that last and can be handed down to future generations. Acala Stem is disrupting the current luxury goods market and re-framing the meaning of luxury for the future.

• 10 million+ children are living in slavery conditions worldwide.
These numbers are too high to ignore.
Acala Stem is a powerful brand with a very strong purpose. We partner with a social enterprise to manage the division of sewing labour across the rural provinces of Cambodia. This creates opportunities for vulnerable women to work at home with their children, with a good wage and flexible working conditions. This can lower the risk of children entering orphanages, slavery and trafficking.
Acala Stem’s supply chain has already helped train more than 150 spinners who can earn up to $USD14 a day or between $USD200-$400 per month (considering the average income in rural provinces is $USD70 a month).
We have helped re-employ over 60 seamstresses across rural Cambodia. We are taking actionable, realistic and measurable steps to create humanitarian impact. We are 100% factory-free and cruelty-free, built consciously around the needs of overseas workers first and foremost.
The production of our lotus silk has also increased the opportunities of lotus farmers who once could only sell the flowers and seeds. The sale of the stems can now exceed $USD30,000 per year for farmers. Previously the stems were discarded as waste.
Acala Stem is an advocating voice for overseas workers. Many are under coercive control and fear losing their jobs if they speak up or take a stand against poor conditions. This is why we have to be their voice – as brands, and as consumers.
