Clinical Testing

If you already own Acala Stem lotus silk and can feel the difference from ordinary fabrics, here’s why…

We care enough for our customer’s health to put the lotus microfibre to clinical tests. Acala Stem's pure lotus silk microfibre has been clinically tested at world renown Nelson Laboratories in the USA for its Breathability (Differential Pressure, or Delta P) and Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE).

The ultra-thin, breathable layer of lotus microfibre is trapping an extra 63% of microns at 0.3 in size. With the breathability result of 0.54, that’s 6 times more breathable than any synthetic fabric. See our findings in summary below:

• An antibacterial activity (antibiosis) of greater than 99%*.
• Breathability (pressure differential) of 0.54 (mm H2O/cm2) i.e. higher than cotton and 6 times better than synthetic fibres#.
• The ability to filtrate nearly two-thirds of sub-micron particles ^.

In simple terms, the anti-bacterial properties of the lotus microfibre means it not only prevents bacteria from forming, it actually kills it within 24 hours.

This is big news, especially for our lotus silk skincare range.

We take our company values very seriously. We want to prove that it’s possible to look after ourselves with plant-based, plastic-free products, with very little harm to our earth and its creatures.

To authenticate these claims, please see result certificates below. We are continuing our research and clinical testing, looking at ways that we can keep improving our products.

* Testing was performed to the Korean Standard KS K 0693:2016. (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae).
# Testing performed to the European standard EN 14683:2019, Annex C and the American Standard ASTM F2100:19.
^ Testing was performed to the American Standard ASTM F2299 with a Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) of 63% at 0.3 micro-metres (microns).
